ABOUT ME

The first thing you should know about me, is that I love gardening and above all else that came first. I didn’t know any gardeners, my parents ‘maintained’ our garden but other than a flower bed and some roses I don’t really remember growing anything in our garden as a child.

I started gardening when, like most people, I moved into my own house and suddenly had this outdoor space to contend with. But then I really fell in love when I was given a packet of seeds which I sowed and to my astonishment they grew (with very little help from me as it turned out). I was and am still in awe of that little miracle when it happens.

I continued gardening for pleasure at home and the thought of doing it as a career just didn’t cross my mind. I fell into the trap of ‘getting a job and making money’ and not really enjoying my career. Until I was given the courage to start a new career in horticulture. Along the way I’ve meant some very inspiring people and I adore my chosen path.

But there was a clash of interests along the way. I have been practising a plastic free lifestyle for a number of years and the one area that I have struggled with, is the garden. I want to garden but not at the expense of my current plastic free lifestyle. I know first hand how dominated my industry is by plastic and how difficult it is to find alternatives, but they are out they you just have to know where to look.

So with a little encouragement, I started Good Roots Barn in August 2020, to provide plastic free alternative gardening supplies. I want to enjoy gardening, along with many other people I’m sure, with the peace of mind that I’m not adding to the ever increasing plastic pollution and environmental impact we are having on our planet.

And so the adventure begins!
